All the duplex 2205 stainless steel pipes are heat treated under specified temperature and doused conditions. While the chemical composition of this grade of pipes is similar to other austenitic grades of stainless steel pipes like 316 or 316lL. While this duplex grade has a high content of chromium of 22%, 5% to 6% of nickel, and 3% of molybdenum which specifically works wonders in halide containing conditions like seawater environments.
The chromium or chrome acts like skin to the base metal protecting it against various crevice corrosions and pitting. It also helps prevent the metal from oxidation and acidic conditions. Though it can be used under specified temperature only, or it might get subject to embrittlement. While the mechanical properties of these pipes can be one of its major features. These duplex pipes has a higher yield strength of 550 MPa and even higher tensile strength of 800 MPa, which is considered 2 to 3 times higher than the usual austenitic alloy pipes. Due to this, these pipes are widely used in various industrial applications which require high strength and even higher anti-corrosive properties.
