Type : Seamless
Grade : Grade B And Grade C
ASTM A106 seamless pipe also known as ASME SA106 pipes generally refers to pipes that are of seamless construction and are majorly used for transportation of gas and liquid from one location to another location, ASTM A106 pipes are most suitable for High-temperature services and handle a good amount of pressure. These pipes are manufactured as per the dimension standard of ANSI B36.10 / ASME B36.10. In ASTM A106 Grade B is the most commonly used pipe, this grade is the client’s first choice for use, due to economical prices and ease of availability throughout the world.
The pipes have minimum Yield strength of 240 MPa for grade B pipes and 275 MPa for grade C pipes and minimum tensile strength of 415 MPa for grade B pipes and 485 MPa for grade C pipes with a minimum elongation of 16.5%/30%.
The pipes are manufactured by cold drawn finish process or Hot finished process. Cold draw finish pipes require subsequent heat treatment of Normalizing at 900 deg. C. These pipes are mainly used in industries such as oil and gas refineries, petrochemical plants, boiler, chemical plants, Shipbuilding.

For ordering material to ASTM A106 specification following details are required
The steel shall be killed steel, with the primary melting process being open-hearth, basic-oxygen, or electric-furnace, possibly combined with separate degassing or refining.
Steel cast in ingots or strand cast is permissible
For pipe NPS 1-1/2 and under, it shall be permissible to furnish hot finished or cold drawn.
For pipe NPS 2 [DN 50] and over shall be furnished hot finished.
Pipes manufactured by the cold-drawn process must be supplied in Normalized conditions
Pipes manufactured by the Hot finished does not require and heat treatment process.

At any given point the thickness of the pipe should not be 12.5% under the nominal wall thickness as specified.
The weight of any length of pipe shall not vary more than 10% over and 3.5% under that specified.
Each length of pipe shall be subjected to the hydrostatic test without leakage through the pipe wall. The hydro test produces stress in the pipe wall equal to 60% of SMYS (Specified minimum Yield strength) at room temperature. For pipes upto 3” NPS hydro test cannot exceed 2500 PSI and for size greater than 3” it cannot exceed 2800 PSI.
Pipes are supplied in single random length of 4 to 7 meter long or double random length of 9 to 12 meter long
A pipe must carry the following information in marking stenciled on the pipes
