ASTM A335 Grade P1 (ASME SA333 GR. P1) specification pipes are generally Ferritic alloy steel pipes used for High-temperature services, this specification falls under the Low Alloy steel pipes category. These pipes are manufactured through the Seamless production process. The UNS designation for this grade P1 is K11522.
ASTM A335 Grade P1 Seamless Pipe
ASTM A335 P1 Pipe
P1 Alloy Steel Seamless Pipe
These pipes have a minimum tensile strength of 415 MPa and a minimum Yield Strength of 205 MPa with an elongation of a minimum of 30%/20%. This pipe can be both cold drawn or hot-finished with finishing heat-treated to either isothermal annealed or normalized and tempered.
These pipes are ideal for flanging, bending, etc. under high temperature situations. These pipes are used in industries like oil and gas, boilers, chemical and petrochemical as well as in high temperature pipelines and various engineering applications. These pipes are available in various thicknesses and sizes as per the project’s specifications. The pipes are manufactured in size as per NPS / NB size with dimension standard as per ASME/ANSI B36.10. The ends of these pipes can be supplied in threaded, bevelled or plain ends.
These P1 pipes are alloyed with different elements to improve upon their base physical properties and to create new specialized properties such as heat and corrosion resistance. ASTM A335 P1 pipes combine carbon steel with materials like aluminium, copper or nickel as per the requirements of the project. Carbon is the most important element of the mix. It increases strength, hardness and resistance to wear and abrasion. However, the downside is that it lowers ductility, toughness and machinability, to resolve this Molybdenum is added to the chemical composition of pipes which provides improved ductility, enhances its elastic limit and impact qualities.
